Reconsidering the Minimum

Project Info

Supported by Health Canada and the CCSA’s updated guidelines for alcohol consumption, this project highlights developed connections within 35 alcohol-induced illnesses via compiled and visualized data, presenting their quality in relation to consumption habits. Alcoholic damage is rather undiscussed, and given the normalization of alcohol culture, many may not be aware of the extent of potential effects. Information isn’t ‘readily available’, contrary to the attention and warnings on cigarette packets. Efforts to inform are not promoted sufficiently, especially as Ontario’s Alcohol Retail Expansion is ongoing. Each attribute of the node adds a layer of information using outer-rings like ripples in effect. From top to bottom, the nodes are aligned in the order of how alcohol travels through the body. Methods of encoding data include classification, graduated symbols, binning, iconography and colour.
